Dan's comment was, "Geez, it looks like Lily sewed this thing up." I said, "Well, they weren't exactly working with a clean-cut laceration." I thought it actually looked pretty good.
Unfortunately, Dan is hurting worse now than he was a couple of days ago. He overdid it a couple days ago, trying to get out and walk a bunch. You know how he is, can't stand to sit still. But he's really taken it easy the last two days. He's trying to wean down off the Lortab and Valium because it gives him bad headaches, but his leg is hurting something fierce. He hates being doped up and is worried about the Lortab running out before his check-up, but I'm like, "Just take the damn things! You nearly cut your leg off. It's gonna hurt like hell for more than just a couple of days. We'll just get a refill."
This morning we were putting a new bandage on Dan's leg and taping it up. We'd run out of medical tape, so we used painter's tape. Awhile later when I went to change Amelia's diaper, I discovered that she had taken a piece and taped up her "owie" just like Daddy. Love that kid!
Now, let us discuss something of great importance.Behold, the Mighty Urinal.
While I am happy for the ease and comfort it provides for Dan in his hour of need, I think this contraption represents one of the great injustices in human anatomy. Seriously girls, how much would you pay to be able to use one of these bad boys right after having a C-Section? Our only options are catheters (eww) or getting our sore aching birth-traumatized bodies out of the bed and squatting on the toilet. It's so unfair.

Extraordinary! Get well, Dan. I've seen you do some crazy things before. This one tops them all!
Glad to see that the sewn up owie isn't as bad as all of the blood and guts laid out for us to see!
We (hubby and I) have enjoyed reading your blog... from far away in Arizona... but I still have some WY girl in me...
SO glad that they were able to SEW Dan up so beautifully so that hopefully he will get better soon. Ken and I are SO sad that this awful accident happened to Dan but we are SOOOOOO happy that Dan's leg is still on his body. SO take care, okay?!
I had to call the Queen on vacation in Tennesee to tell her about Dan almost chopping his leg off! Glad to see a closed up injury today . . . I had weird leg cut dreams last night after viewing Dan's open wound. And about the urinal - yeah, we totally got the short end of the stick on that one - pun intended. :)
The stitches look MUCH better than the gory open gash.
Hey girl, don't hate the players, hate the game. Yes, us guys have the EZ pee equipment, talk to the Maker if you have a complaint. :-)
Greetings again from the Nursey Auntie.......ARE YOU KIDDING!! That thing looks fabulous. No brusing. No infection. No drainage. No swelling. Besides, Dan, there's something sexy about a man with a great scar. Make the most of it...........
...like when we took road trips in the van when we were little and the boys peed in sprite cans and the girls used wide mouthed glass jars that splashed all over...very unfair.
I guess I should really comment on the niceness of the man in your town and not just on the urinal. That is an amazing story and I can see how a small town could kind of band together like that. I'm glad you're there.
Amen, sister. I would have loved more convenient restroom options after my c-sections. But, if men can't have babies, then I guess there's some compensation in convenient anatomy. Although, I wouldn't trade my motherhood for convenient peeing, thank you very much. I feel this bond with Emma that I wouldn't trade for anything.
P.S. I ditto Liz - his wound looks great! And scars are sexy!
I also thought it looked pretty good. I hope you get to feeling better, Dan. Give me a jingle next time you're in SLC and I'll take you to get some food to celebrate your being alive.
