Oh No, Sam, I had the World's Largest Hair

If you've read the comments on my ABC post, you may have noticed one from spymommy, saying that she wasn't so thrilled about seeing old pictures with her big hair. Here, on the left, is Samantha in 1990:

(Lori, I love how you can lift your bangs in one big chunk!)

To this I can only respond:

Pppshawwww! Amateur.

Let me show you what big hair really looks like:

This was taken in December 1989, right when my brother Don got off his mission. I'm sure he was wondering what in the hell fire happened to his baby sister.

I dare any of you to top this hair.

Ok First of all. . . you do not have big hair Sam. In fact your look is timeless. Susan beats you on the big hair for sure.

But let us peruse the early 90's fashion trends of BEING ABLE TO LIFT MY BANGS WITH ONE HAND. That is seriously messed up. I think that I will throw up.

I can remember styling my hair back in the day. . . .

Sinead o Connor was on the radio with her hit "Nothing Compares 2u". I had a can of aqua net and brush in hand. IF I remember correctly it was a green brush that I owned since 5th grade. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Then there was the always ready to heat curling iron. Remember when the butane curling irons were in style? Why oh why would we curl our hair with that. . . Oh yeah, because it was cordless! How convenient!

So I would make one big curl and then brush it up and spray. . and spray. . . and spray. OH and then spray some more!!@!!

What a great memory I was just provided with by you all!

Thanks!!

Lori

Ahhhhhhh, there's the Sue I know and love. I remember sitting out on our balconies looking at that hair and marveling at it's stiffness.

Oh Lori, I am totally cackling right now! Such a fine visual!

You know brushes were like a dollar back then, right? Oh, and I totally had one of those butane curling irons. Rochelle and I would go into the bathroom in between classes and during lunch and redo our hair, caking on what must have been a full ounce of hairspray. Hey, it took a lot of effort and product to keep that monstrosity of a mane looking good.

Matt, it was all in the power of the spray. I believe my hairspray of choice was White Rain. Ooh, I can smell it now...

And Lori, at least yours had a round curl to it instead of straight up in the air like Kelly's. "Catch the Wave, Coke."

Let us all say fervent prayers to the hair gods that the 80's big hairstyles never, never come back in fashion. Otherwise, we might all have to fight with the environmentalists for our right to use big cans of aerosol hairspray. Hey, maybe when our little kids are in high school, big hair will make a comeback, and we'll get to mock them mercilessly!

Never mind. Our teenagers might bankrupt us with their unending purchase of hairspray.

Okay, okay Sue . . . you definitely had some of the TALLEST hair of the people I knew in the late 80's/early 90's . . . and the picture of me you posted is actually pretty tame and flat. But, I don't know if you read Shar's blog - so go check out my post today and confirm the facts - I had BIG hair (we're talking over all bigness.) Sorry to incriminate Sharlene and Laurie Pratt at the same time. :) BTW Rochelle Beverly's brother Brian just moved into my ward about 3 months ago --- small, small world!

Sam's not on drugs today, but clearly was when she had big hair.

I mean who in their right mind would go around looking like that if they weren't drugged up? (;

Holy Hair, Batman!! I used to have a butane curling iron, too... I can still smell it in my mind and hear the clicking noise it made when firing up. Yikes!

Great hair! I know mine was worse, but I don't have the pics to prove it.
